POOR BOWLING IS A CAUSE OF WORRY
By S.Ravichandran
Having lost a great opportunity to go up 1-0 in the ODI Series, rain taking the credit this time, the Indian team was quite eager to win the 2nd ODI at Rose Bowl, Southampton. Unfortunately the rain made its entry right before the match. Match was delayed and was finally decided as 23 overs per side match, almost a T20 match.
England won the toss and decided to field. Parthiv Patel and Rahane opened the innings as usual. Stroking freely Parthiv Patel score 28 off just 18 balls and got out when the total was 30. Dravid joined Rahane and they built on a useful partnership. When the score was at 109 Dravid fell for 32. Kohli fell for just 9 runs, while Raina scored a brisk 40. Dhoni disappointed once again scoring just 11 runs. Manoj Tiwary who replaced injured Rohit Sharma didn't have much deliveries to prove his worth. India ended their innings with a challenging score of 187/8. Bresnan and Swann took 3 wickets apiece.
Needing 188 runs to win from 23 overs England had excellent start maintaining a run rate of around 10 right from the beginning. Kieswetter scored 46 for 31 balls. Bell and Bopara played well while the England skipper Alastair Cook stood like a rock at the other end and was unbeaten on 80 off 63 balls. England won the match comfortably by 7 wickets with 5 balls remaining.
Dhoni's search for the first win in the series continues and the weak bowling attack of India creates more pressure on the batsmen, as they have to score around 20-25 runs extra to make for their weakness in the bowling.

India has to look into different bowling options, if they want to at least level the series 2-2, the first match being washed out.
