IPL Season 5 - Match 2 KKR Vs DD

DLF IPL Season 5 - Match 2

Delhi Daredevils Vs Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata

Spectators all over the world had some anxious moments as the start of the match was delayed due to wet condition of the ground.  The match finally kicked off with reduced overs.  It was decided as a 12 over per team match.

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and decided to field, as you would normally expect in a shortened match.  KKR started anxiously and paid the price by losing early wickets.  Both the openers Brendon McCullum and Jacques Kallis fell to cheap scores.  Gautam Gambhir tried to hold one end, but the wickets kept tumbling at the other end.  Timely slogging by Debrata Das and the veteran Laxmi Ratan Shukla enabled KKR to reach a decent score of 97/9 from the allotted 12 overs.  Mornie Morkel was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3/18 from 3 overs.  Umesh Yadav also did well claiming 2/9 from 2 overs.  Van der Merwe also joined the party with 2 wickets to his tally.

Needing 98 to win from 12 overs, Delhi started cautiously learning a lesson from KKR's batting collapse.  Sehwag was off the strike for a long time and the other opener Finch did well to score 30 off 27 deliveries before getting bowled by Kallis.  Sehwag scored useful 20 off 13 balls and fell to an excellent catch by Iqbal Abdulla at the deep.  It was Irfan's cameo of 42 off 20 balls which made things easy for Delhi Daredevils.  Delhi won the match by 8 wickets with 5 deliveries remaining.

It was a very decent performance of Delhi Daredevils, considering the key players they missed out in this match and also their poor performance against KKR in the previous edition.
