Match 49 Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians
at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field. Dwayne Smith, a very useful all-rounder,
replaced the injured Kieron Pollard,
CSK started well scoring at around 9 runs per over. Greatest news for them is that their
out-of-form batsman Murali Vijay played extremely well. The openers were playing some attacking
shots. Unfortunately Du Plessis got run
out making 9 off 11. Total was 47 at
that time. Raina joined Murali Vijay but the latter got out soon making 41 off
29 balls. He was particularly severe in
one over bowled by Munaf Patel. Bravo
joined Raina and they took the score to 114 when Raina fell brilliantly caught
by R.P.Singh off Franklin. Bravo and
Dhoni continued to attack. Bravo got
out after scoring 40 off 33 balls, a little bit slow considering his
capability. Dhoni contributed 25 runs
off 15 balls. CSK posted a challenging
score of 173/8. Lasith Malinga was at
his best as usual claiming 3/25 and R.P.Singh was equally good claiming 3/28.
Mumbai Indians lost
Franklin early. Bin Hilfenhaus started
with a maiden over. Franklin tried to
hit the first delivery of Hilfenhaus's second over and was caught by Murali
Vijay. Forgetting this setback, Sachin and
Rohit Sharma played brilliantly accumulating runs. Sachin got out making 74 off 44 balls when
the total score was 134. Dinesh Karthik
played some good shots and was out for 11 off 5 balls. Rayudu got out for a duck. Pressure mounted on Rohit Sharma at the other
end and he too succumbed to the pressure and lost his wicket after making 60
off 46 balls. There was more shock to follow as Robin
Pietersen, Harbhajan Singh and Lasit Malinga got out for duck. Three ducks in a row took away the
possibility of win for the Mumbai Indians.
But the surprise package was from Dwayne Smith. He played in an incredible manner scoring 24
runs off just 9 balls. He could get his
strike in the last over only in the 4th delivery. 14 runs were required off the last 3
deliveries and Dwayne Smith exactly hit those runs scoring 6, 4 and 4. It was a dramatic finish and Mumbai Indians
won the match by 2 wickets. Ironically
Hilfenhaus who started with a maiden over ended up very expensive in the last over,
conceding 16 runs, thanks to Dwayne Smith's heroics.
