DLF IPL Season 5
Match 62
Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs
Mumbai Indians at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Start of the match was delayed due to rain. Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to
field.
RCB lost Gayle and Kohli for paltry scores. Saurabh Tiwary and AB De Villiers scored some
runs and got out soon. But opener
Dilshan's 47 runs and Mayank Agarwal's brilliant knock of 64* off 30 balls
enabled RCB to post a challenging score of 171/6.
Mumbai Indians' reply was equally disastrous, even worse than that
of RCB, losing Tendulkar, Gibbs and Rohit Sharma cheaply and then Dinesh
Karthik a little later. Dwayne Smith
also departed for 6 runs and the Mumbai Indians were tottering at 5/51 at one
stage. RCB looked well poised to win the
match. But a breathtaking unbeaten partnership
of 122 runs between Ambati Rayudu (81* off 54 balls) and Kieron Pollard (52*
off 31 balls) for the 6th wicket took the game away from RCB. Mumbai Indians won the match by 5 wickets
with 2 balls remaining.
Match 63
Kolkata Knight Riders Vs
Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens, Kolkata
CSK won the toss and elected to field. Brilliant opening partnership of 99 runs
between Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum laid the platform for a score in
excess of 180 runs. But poor batting and
fall of wickets at regular intervals resulted in a mediocre score of 158/6.
CSK's opening pair of Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay played
brilliantly gathering 97 runs for the first wicket. To make the match even, they too lost the
wickets at regular intervals like KKR.
As if someone had written a well planned script, CSK needed 5 runs off
the last delivery and Bravo finished the game with a huge six.
We had two great matches today....
What is so special about this Super Monday?
Look at the facts and decide yourself.
- Both the matches were won by 5 wickets
- Both the matches were won by the chasing team in
the last over
- Both the matches went against the popular
belief, as we expected RCB to win the first match to keep their hopes
alive and KKR to win the second match based on their current form and home
advantage.
- Both the matches had similar pattern. In Match 1 RCB had a drastic start and they
managed to play well towards the end to post 171 runs. Mumbai Indians also
had a poor start but played well towards the end to win the match. In Match 2, KKR had a dream start and
failed to capitalize on it scoring just 158 runs. CSK had almost similar start but lost
the wickets and resulted in a tense last ball finish.
GREAT
DAY FOR CRICKET, 16th LAST BALL FINISH OF THIS SEASON AND MORE IMPORTANTLY NO
TEAM FROM THE TOP 7 IS MATHEMATICALLY OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS.
9
matches remaining before the Play-Offs and this is the current status:

DELHI

15/05 Punjab
17/05 Bangalore 19/05 Punjab |
Expected to win at least one match and qualify with a minimum
of 20 points. Whichever team
loses against Delhi would struggle to make it to the Playoff stage.

A Win against KKR would make their life tense.
A win against Rajasthan would keep RR out of contention.

19/05 Pune |
If Mumbai win against KKR, the latter would be left with
"Must Win" situation against weaker team Pune. But "Dada factor" and Pune's
"nothing to loose" situation might derail them as KKR won the first
match against Pune just by 6 runs, that too at home.

CHENNAI

17/05 Punjab

Must win match for Chennai to reach 19 points. Even if they are tied at points with
Bangalore in the end, CSK's healthy NRR would save them.

17/05 Chennai 19/05 Delhi |
Win in all the games would see them through. One win against Delhi and one against CSK
would place them above CSK. Then they
must expect RCB and RR to win just one match each.
|
So, all the remaining matches are going to be crucial.
Enjoy witnessing those matches.
This is probably the most competitive IPL.
