Match 44 Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs
Kings XI Punjab at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field. Mayank Agarwal and the big hitting Gayle
opened the innings for RCB. Agarwal got
out for 7. Out of form batsman Kohli
joined Gayle. But he played very well
this time. Gayle was on song as usual
and when he finally got out for 71 off 42 balls interspersed with six 4s and
four 6s, the score was 126/2 in the 16th over.
Kohli got out soon making 45 off 42 balls. De Villers could not show his magical touch
this time, making just 17 runs. RCB
could make only 158/5. This target is
very much achievable on a placid Bengaluru track. Azhar Mahmood was the pick of the KXIP
bowlers claiming 3/20 off 4 overs.
KXIP chase was impressive though they lost Shaun Marsh for 8
runs who was away from strike during the first 4 overs. Mandeep Singh dominated the strike and the
total of 38 when Marsh got out. Nitin
Saini joined Mandeep and they took the score to 73 in the 9th over, when
Mandeep got out for 43 off 30 balls.
David Hussey came in next and played a fine innings. When thing were well in control, Nitin Saini
played an unnecessary shot and got out. Some
clueless running from the KXIP players resulted in 3 run outs within a short
period of time. Suddenly the pressure
started mounting. Zaheer bowled a super
penultimate over and the last over from Vinay Kumar was equally tight. But a timely hit from Piyush Chawla for a six
off the penultimate delivery enabled KXIP win by 4 wickets.
KXIP climbed up to the 4th Spot in the Points Table, pushing CSK
to the 5th Spot.
Pune Warriors take on the Mumbai Indians on Day 30. It is a must win situation for them, as a win
for them could move them to the 4th spot.
Otherwise Mumbai Indians would strengthen their position at 3rd spot, the
position already enjoyed by them right now.
