IPL Season 5 - Status after Day 40

DLF IPL Season 5

Match 60
Rajasthan Royals def. Pune Warriors India by 45 runs

Match 61
Kings XI Punjab def. Deccan Chargers by 4 wickets

The first match was no contest as the Royals won without any trouble.

But the second match was a thriller.  Deccan Chargers, unfortunately, on the receiving end again.  They had posted a challenging score of 191.  But KXIP knocked off those runs, hitting the winning runs off the last ball.  Chargers posted a challenging score against the Rajasthan Royals and lost the match.

These two results made the points table very much even with top 7 teams lining up with points 18, 17, 16, 15, 15, 14, 14, which means no team can be written off at this point of time.

Tomorrow we have two great clashes.

Match No.62
MON
14-May
1600
BANGALORE
Vs
MUMBAI
Bengaluru

Mumbai Indians with 16 points from 13 matches.  They need to win this match to overtake KKR and capture the 2nd Spot.  It will also make their claim for the top 4 spots stronger.

RCB with 15 points play their 14th match.  They need to win this match to go ahead of CSK and saty at No.4.   CSK play their 15th match later same day.

Match No.63
MON
14-May
2000
KOLKATA
Vs
CHENNAI
Kolkata

KKR will have another chance to go ahead of Delhi Daredevils and top the table if they win this match.  But the match is more crucial for CSK who have 15 points from 14 matches.  If they lose this match they are virtually out of the Playoffs.  Even if they win and reach 17 points they have to watch the results of the remaining matches as Rajasthan Royals closely follow them with 14 from 14 matches and Kings XI Punjab with 14 from 13 matches.  Ironically CSK play their last match against Kings XI Punjab at Dharmsala, famous for Dhoni's massive six off Irfan Pathan (who then played for KXIP that season) to take CSK to the semi-final of Season 3.
